Song of the Elves

Epic fantasy novels and short stories by David Charles Shepherd

Beasts and Burdens

After spending the weekend inputting the new ‘creature’ feature to the website, I had a day of getting close to the ‘beasts’ of my garden whilst repairing the back fence.  Our cats Bob and Alf have seen off the local squirrel population, but the outdoor catbowl seems to be attracting a whole new set of visitors – Spike the hedgehog, Blackie the Blackbird and Sooty the farm cat have all invaded.  Bob and Alf need to up their game!

This weekend the technical team here at SOTE HQ will begin the final process of readying A Shadow Falls for paperback release.  Watch this space…

I’ve also begun mapping out part two of the mini-series The Wolves of Winter, a thrilling saga from an earlier age of Rhoderica (check out Part 1 now in the chapters section) and aim to make it available in time for Christmas.  Thomas is now a teenager, but his grandfather Malakai can still spin a tale to keep him on the edge of his seat.  This time we get a peak at life during the Black Rose Wars.  We will also see a little more of the relationship between Tom and Malakai and gain an understanding of the strain between Thomas and his father, who seems to shun all notion that the Wolves of Winter ever existed.

As for the summer, well I’ve ear marked time to complete The Mirror of His Soul, my stand alone sci-fi thriler.  If only there were more hours in the day…

Up the Elves!

About The Author

Writing has been my main form of escape since a child. Before teaching, I earned a living on a little known national newspaper, before discovering I also had a calling for the classroom. The first embryonic scribbles for Song of the Elves emerged in 2000. I began writing the first trilogy as one continuous manuscript entitled The Summerlands, which I finally completed in the Winter of 2007. In the intervening years, I've been transforming this first draft into three distinct instalments of the saga. "A Shadow Falls" and "The King's Blades" have already seen the light of day. "Sins of the Father" will follow shortly. There will be a second trilogy to complete the saga, which I intend to commence work on in 2012. Book four is entitled "The Lost, The Lonely and the Damned". I have also written a series of short tales entitled The Wolves of Winter, set in Rhoderica before the elves invaded the continent. This is now available through as a paperback and via amazon kindle as an e-book.. My second, 'Tale of Rhoderica' will be a fantasy version of the great John Ford western - The Searchers. Entitled, To the Ends of the Earth', the novel will be out for Spring 2016. I am also half-way through a manuscript for a science fiction novel, entitled The Mirror of His Soul. Time and health permitting, these will all eventually see the light of day.
